The Book of Mormon

Videos

ScripturePlus contains over a thousand videos, distributed throughout the scriptures to help you visualize, understand, and enjoy the scriptures more. In addition to Book of Mormon Central's KnoWhy videos, ScripturePlus has the Book of Mormon Videos series by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We also feature videos from Evidence Central, John Hilton III, the Bible Project, Messages of Christ, and John W. Welch.

Red-Lettering

In the BMC Edition of the Scriptures, users can choose to turn on "red-lettering." This is a common technique in many popular Bibles. Red-Letter Bibles highlight all the words of Jesus Christ in red, so as to reverence them and highlight their significance. In the Book of Mormon, ScripturePlus has highlighted all the words and names of Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy Ghost in red. We are currently working on the red-lettering for the Doctrine and Covenants.

Book of Mormon Central Edition

The BMC Edition of the scriptures is a re-formatting of the 2013 edition of the scriptures of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Book of Mormon Central was specially licensed by The Church to use the official text of the scriptures in the development of the ScripturePlus app. The BMC Edition seeks to stay true to the spirit and content of the 2013 text of the scriptures. The BMC Edition does not change any punctuation, phrasing, or re-translation. This edition simply facilitates an easier reading experience by formatting all the verses into paragraphs.

Scripture Reading Experience

ScripturePlus seeks to immerse users in the scriptures. One way we strive to do that is by creating a more cohesive and Christ-centered reading experience. We provide red-lettering in various volumes of scripture to focus readers on Jesus Christ. We also provide various editions of the scriptures so that users can enjoy different experiences in God's word.

Speaker Identification

No matter where you are in the scriptures, speaker identification allows you to know at-a-glance who is speaking in the scriptures. This can sometimes be difficult, since ancient prophets often quote other prophets, scriptures, or other characters in the narrative. ScripturePlus strives to provide the most immediate speaker

Historical Settings

Wherever you are in the scriptures, it can sometimes be ambiguous or confusing to know where in time and space you may be located. In a given verse of scripture, who is speaking? Who is the audience? Where is this taking place? When is this taking place? The Historical Settings tab offers immediate, at-a-glance information on all these topics for every single verse in a book of scripture.

In the Book of Mormon, we currently have completed speaker identification.

We are currently working towards having all these topics completed for the Doctrine and Covenants by 2021.

Questions and Answers

There are many challenging questions to faith in the Book of Mormon and elsewhere. ScripturePlus has authored several dozen articles addressing specific criticisms of the Book of Mormon and have made them available throughout the scriptures in the app.

KnoWhys

KnoWhys are concise articles about some aspect of the Book of Mormon you may not be familiar with (the Know portion) and its significance (the Why portion). KnoWhys are well-researched, written, edited, illustrated, laid out, and narrated. They are published as pages, posts, videos, podcasts, tweets, and memes across a dozen social media channels including a mobile app. KnoWhys are published frequently in English and Spanish. KnoWhy #1 was published on January 1, 2016. KnoWhy #584 was published on November 10, 2020.

Art Contest

Each year since 2016, Book of Mormon Central has sponsored an art competition to encourage and curate excellent art that illustrates the Book of Mormon. Many of these submissions are featured in the ScripturePlus app.

If you are an artist or know an artist, consider participating in our art competition for a chance to win and be featured in the app. Refer to the Book of Mormon Central Events page to keep apprised of the next Art Contest.

Charts

Users can visualize data and understand scriptural themes through visually striking charts.

We took the 1999 landmark publication Charting the Book of Mormon, and updated the charts in full color, reimagined graphics, and optimized for mobile screens
We transformed graphics that were intended for 8.5x11 printed pages, and transformed them to be vertically scrollable on a mobile screen.

In addition, Book of Mormon Central has designed 25 infographics that explain principles and applications of the 25 Doctrinal Mastery passages of the Seminary program.
